If you've been curious about getting a psychiatric evaluation but don't want to spend your day driving to an appointment, telehealth is probably the answer. Sindhia Shyras, APRN at Elite Health LLC sees patients across all of Connecticut — including Windsor — via secure video. You don't need to download an app or set anything up. You need a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera, and a reasonably private space. That's it. The evaluation itself is the same — a thorough, 60-minute conversation — and the quality of care doesn't change because it's over a screen.
You'll receive a link before your appointment. At the scheduled time, you click it and you're in. Sindhia will be on the other side — no waiting room, no front desk, just the appointment. She'll introduce herself, ask what brought you in, and go from there. The conversation covers your symptoms, history, current medications, sleep, family background, and anything else that's relevant. She'll ask follow-up questions. You'll have space to answer in your own time. By the end, she'll share what she's observed and walk you through what she recommends — whether that's medication, supportive therapy, a follow-up plan, or some combination. It's a real appointment. Just without the commute.
For the vast majority of psychiatric evaluations, telehealth works just as well as in-person. Sindhia can observe a great deal from a video conversation — affect, thought patterns, how someone describes their experience, what they're comfortable talking about. What she can't do via telehealth is a physical exam, but that's rarely part of a psychiatric evaluation anyway. If your situation turns out to need something that works better in person, she'll tell you. But most Windsor patients who start with telehealth stick with it because it removes one of the biggest barriers to getting care — making time for it.
The video platform is HIPAA-compliant — meaning your session is encrypted and private. On the insurance side, telehealth psychiatric services are covered by most major plans, including Aetna, Cigna, Husky Health, Medicaid, United Healthcare, Anthem, and ConnectiCare. Coverage for telehealth has expanded significantly over the past few years, so even if you've had it denied before, it's worth checking again. Sindhia also sees self-pay patients. If you prefer to come in person instead, the New Britain office at 1 Liberty Sq, Suite 301 is accessible from Windsor — about 20 minutes down Route 5.
