Bristol has a character all its own — known for ESPN's sprawling campus off Route 229, for Lake Compounce drawing families each summer, and for a close-knit community that's been here through the factory era and well beyond. It's a city where people know their neighbors and look out for each other. But even in a community like that, mental health struggles often go unspoken — because there's still a stigma, because finding a provider who takes your insurance feels complicated, because you don't want to be a burden. If you have Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and you've been putting off psychiatric care for any of those reasons, here's a straightforward path. Sindhia Shyras, APRN is a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with nine years of experience, she is in-network with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Connecticut, and she's accepting new patients right now via telehealth. Bristol is just a short drive from our New Britain office, too — if you'd rather come in person, that option's there.
Most Anthem plan types — PPO, EPO, HMO, and employer group plans — cover psychiatric evaluations and medication management as part of behavioral health benefits. Under federal mental health parity law, Anthem has to treat those visits the same as medical specialist visits. That means the same copay structure and the same deductible rules. For most Anthem PPO and EPO members, you can book directly with Sindhia — no referral needed. If you have an Anthem HMO plan like Pathway X, a referral from your PCP is usually required first. Either way, the process isn't complicated. Specialist copays typically run $20–$60 depending on your plan.
Bristol to New Britain is about 15 minutes on Route 72 — one of the shorter drives in Connecticut for in-person psychiatric care. And if your Anthem plan covers telehealth at in-person rates (most do), you can skip that drive entirely. Sindhia's telehealth appointments deliver a full psychiatric evaluation and ongoing medication management by secure video. The experience is the same either way — the only difference is whether you're in our waiting room or your living room. If Anthem requires prior authorization for your medication management, we handle that submission. You won't be sitting on hold with Anthem's provider line.
Sindhia sees adults for depression, anxiety, panic disorder, PTSD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, insomnia, and mood disorders. Appointments are available in English, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu. Your first visit is a full psychiatric evaluation — she takes time to understand your history, your current symptoms, and what you want to change. From there, your care plan is built around what you actually need. And follow-up appointments are part of the structure from day one.
Not everyone wants to run every appointment through insurance — whether because the deductible is high, because of privacy preferences, or because you're between plans. Self-pay is always an available option at Elite Health LLC. Call 860-515-8689 to ask about current self-pay rates and how they compare to your expected Anthem out-of-pocket cost. We'll give you a straight answer.
